Albany, OR – Seven Killed in Major Truck Wreck on I-5

Albany, OR (May 20, 2023) – A driver was arrested following a major truck accident that took place in Western Oregon on Friday that claimed the lives of multiple people.

On May 19, the Oregon State Police responded to the scene of a crash that occurred on Interstate 5.

Reports indicate that a semi-truck crashed into a passenger van on the roadway. The van was occupied by 11 people at the time of the accident.

Six people suffered fatal injuries in the crash and were pronounced deceased at the scene. One additional victim passed away before they were able to be airlifted to an area hospital for emergency care.

Four additional people suffered injuries in the crash and were transported to area hospitals.

The driver of the truck, a 52-year-old man from North Highlands, California, was taken into police custody. He is facing multiple charges of manslaughter and assault, reckless driving, and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
