Amherst, NY – Bus Crash on I-290 near Sheridan Exit Ends in Injuries

Amherst, NY (October 22, 2023) – A bus crash reported on Friday in the Amherst area ended in injuries.

The incident occurred just after 7:40 a.m. on October 20.

According to reports, a pickup truck was trying to merge onto the eastbound lanes of Interstate 290 when it collided with a bus in the Sheridan area. The impact of the crash sent the bus, which was on its way to Beyond Support Network, to overturn and land in a ditch off the side of the roadway.

The Amherst Police Department responded to the scene and shut down the roadway, resulting in severe traffic delays.

Five students were injured as a result of the crash. The victims were transported to Oishei’s Children’s Hospital for treatment and evaluation.

A school aid on the bus also suffered injuries. The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where they were admitted with serious injuries.

At this time, the crash is being investigated.
