Fatal Truck Accidents in South Carolina

Anderson, SC – Two Killed in Tractor-Trailer Crash on I-85 near MM 22Each year, thousands of people die due to truck accidents that occur in the United States. There are many factors that contribute to these accidents occurring. The unfortunate truth is that many of these accidents occur as a result of mechanical failures or problems.

One of the most common types of mechanical failures that lead to fatal truck accidents is break failures. Brakes are critical components in ensuring a vehicle’s safe operation, particularly considering a loaded commercial truck can weigh up to 80,000 pounds. Faulty or poorly maintained brakes can lead to devastating consequences if they fail during deceleration or emergency situations.

Another significant mechanical problem lies within tire malfunctions, which also pose substantial hazards on our highways. Insufficient tread depth or improper inflation levels significantly impact a truck’s ability to maintain proper traction and control, increasing the likelihood of skidding or losing control altogether in adverse weather conditions such as snow, rain, or ice. In addition, worn-out suspension systems may severely compromise the stability of a truck as it travels over uneven surfaces or even when navigating tight turns at high speeds. This can make it incredibly difficult for drivers to maintain complete control over their vehicles.
