Truck crashes are particularly devastating in that they involve vehicles that weigh over 80,000 pounds and can cause significant damage. Unfortunately, thousands of people lose their lives as a result of accidents every year, while tens of thousands more are left with significant injuries. Unfortunately, many victims have to go through medical treatment due to the injuries they suffered. In countless instances, victims are forced out of work and have to go through months of therapy, rehabilitation, and other forms of treatment.
After being hurt in a truck accident, crash victims need to take legal action to ensure they have the financial resources needed to cover the costs they face during this very difficult time. After a truck accident, victims have the ability to recover compensation for medical costs, their lost earnings, and more.
When filing a personal injury claim, it is important to recognize that Texas follows a modified comparative negligence doctrine. This means that a person is able to recover compensation for the damages they have suffered so long as they are less than 50 percent to blame for the accident taking place. Insurance companies will do everything they can to try to shift the blame on you, which makes it critically important that you seek legal help from a tractor-trailer accident lawyer right away. Your attorney will be able to gather the strongest evidence against the defendant to prove that you do not share the majority of fault for the accident so that you can recover fair compensation.
