Benson, NC – Fatal Truck Wreck On I-40 near NC-210 Takes One Life

Benson, NC (June 13, 2023) – A truck crash took place in Johnson County on Tuesday morning that claimed one man’s life.

The accident was reported at around 8:55 a.m. on June 13.

According to official reports, a semi-truck tractor-trailer and a second commercial vehicle collided on the westbound side of Interstate 40. Preliminary investigations show that a man was escorting a tractor-trailer that was carrying an oversized load on the westbound lanes of Interstate 40. He directed the vehicle to stop on the side of the roadway. The tractor-trailer entered the shoulder of the road, and the man escorting the vehicle exited in order to inspect the truck.

While outside of his vehicle, a second tractor-trailer came through the area and crashed into the semi-trucks, causing it to strike the man.  The impact of the crash caused the vehicles to scatter debris along multiple lanes of the road near North Carolina 210.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene of the crash to provide assistance.

The pedestrian was fatally injured as a result of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident is currently being investigated.
