Fatal Truck Accidents in Illinois

Chicago, IL – Box Truck Wreck on Stevenson Expressway near Central Ave Takes One LifeFatal truck crashes take countless lives in the state of Illinois every year. Unfortunately, there are many accidents that are completely preventable. Negligent and reckless actions continue to contribute to a significant number of accidents that we see. Common causes include:

  • Driver Fatigue: Truck drivers frequently face long hours and tight schedules, leading to driver fatigue and reduced alertness, a significant contributor to fatal accidents.
  • Overloaded Trucks: Overloaded truck cargo can affect a driver’s ability to maintain control over their vehicle, especially around curved areas on the road.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to stop quickly. This can make it nearly impossible for them to stop.
  • Distracted Driving: Like all drivers, truckers can be distracted by cell phones, CB radios, or other distractions, taking their focus off the road ahead.

After a fatal truck accident is reported, it is crucial to have an investigation performed to determine who is liable. There are several parties who can be held responsible for any damages that your family faces due to a fatal truck crash. These parties include:

  • Truck Driver: If the driver’s negligence or misconduct led to the accident, they may be held personally liable.
  • Trucking Company: Trucking companies can be held accountable if they encouraged or allowed drivers to exceed driving hour limits, neglected maintenance, or pushed for unrealistic delivery schedules.
  • Manufacturers: If a defective part or truck design was the cause of the accident, the manufacturer may be liable.
  • Maintenance Contractors: Those responsible for truck maintenance may be liable if negligence in upkeep contributed to the accident.
