El Cerrito, CA – Two Big Rigs Collide on I-80 near Potrero Ave Exit

El Cerrito, CA (June 22, 2023) – Injuries were reported as a result of an automobile accident that took place in El Cerrito on Tuesday morning, June 20.

At around 1:30 a.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene of a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Interstate 80.

Reports from authorities show that a sugar truck rear-ended a carnival equipment truck while traveling on the Interstate during the early morning hours. The incident caused the sugar truck to spill mounds of sugar across the highway near the off-ramp for Potrero Avenue.

Emergency crews closed off the roadway as they provided assistance at the scene.

Medics responded to care for the injured victims. One driver was rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, California, with serious injuries.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
