Gordon County, GA (August 19, 2023) – Two people lost their lives as a result of a fatal truck accident that took place in Gordon County near the Gordon Bartow County line.
The crash was reported at around 7:30 a.m. on August 17.
According to reports from the Georgia State Patrol, a tractor-trailer hauling a lift was stopped on the shoulder of Interstate 75, along the southbound side of the road, near mile marker 308. The vehicle reportedly experienced a slight mechanical issue.
A Kia traveling down the roadway, which was the pilot vehicle, was also pulled to the side of the road. Once the issues were corrected on the track, both vehicles entered the roadway to proceed forward. A semi-truck came up from behind the Kia and crashed into the rear of the vehicle.
The second tractor-trailer then went off the roadway and down an embankment, where it collided with Sorrento before overturning.
A man in the Kia was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of his injuries. A female in the Kia was severely hurt. She was transported to Piedmont Cartersville Medical Center, where she died from her injuries.
The driver of the second truck was transported to Gordon Medical Center for emergency care.
The accident is being investigated.
