Lafayette Parish, LA – Two Teens Killed in Truck Accident on I-49 near MM 7

Lafayette Parish, LA (August 8, 2023) – Two teens lost their lives following a truck accident that occurred in Lafayette Parish on Sunday morning, August 6.

At around 3:30 a.m., the Louisiana State Police received a notification that their assistance was needed on-site at a major crash on Interstate 49.

Preliminary reports from the police show that a 16-year-old from Opelousas was traveling north on Interstate 49 in an undisclosed vehicle. At the same time, a box truck was heading north on the same roadway. For reasons unknown, the box truck crashed into the rear of the teen’s vehicle. The force of the collision caused the car to overturn.

The driver of the car died while at the scene. His passenger, identified as a 16-year-old male from Church Point, was also killed in the crash and passed away while at the scene.

At this time, the incident is being investigated.
