Mt Vernon, IL (June 18, 2023) – A truck accident was reported in the Mt Vernon area that ended in injuries.
The crash occurred on June 16 at around 2:00 p.m.
According to reports provided by the Illinois State Police, a semi-truck tractor-trailer was traveling north on Veterans Memorial Drive. For unknown reasons, the driver of a semi-truck that was traveling southbound lost control of their vehicle. As a result, it lost a tire, which was struck by the second semi.
The impact of the crash caused the truck to go off the east side of the roadway, through a ditch, and down an embankment. Firefighters and police responded to the scene and shut down the roadway between Interstate 57 and Interstate 64.
One person was injured as a result of the crash.
The victim was transported to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital for emergency treatment of injuries.
The crash is currently being investigated.
