Fatal Truck Accidents in Virginia

Fatal truck accidents take the lives of thousands of people in the United States each year. These accidents account for many of our state’s hundreds of fatal accidents annually. Unfortunately, fatal accidents are often overwhelming for families to deal with. The emotional, mental, and financial impacts that these accidents bring can seem nearly impossible to overcome.

Unfortunately, we see a significant number of fatal collisions caused by driver negligence. In fact, a significant number of accidents take place as a result of driver errors. Leading factors include:

  • Fatigue: Truck drivers often work long hours, and fatigue can impair their ability to drive safely. Unfortunately, this can result in drivers drifting into other lanes and crashing their vehicles.
  • Impairment: Truck drivers who are impaired by drugs, alcohol, and prescription medication are unlikely to be able to control their vehicles safely. As a result, they are more likely to cause devastating crashes.
  • Distraction: Truck drivers may be distracted by cell phones, other electronic devices, or passengers. Taking their attention off the roadway can lead to significant collisions.
  • Speeding: Truck drivers may speed to meet deadlines. Semi-trucks are dangerous enough. However, when they are traveling at high rates of speed, the potential for severe and fatal injuries is drastically increased in collisions.

In addition, there are many truck accidents that take place as a result of vehicle malfunctions. This can include tire failures, break failures, or other mechanical problems.
