Robeson Co., NC (October 29, 2023) – One person was flown by a medical helicopter to a local hospital with injuries following a vehicle collision that occurred in southeastern North Carolina.
The accident was reported just before 7:00 a.m. on October 27.
Reports provided by the North Carolina Highway Patrol show that a semi-truck was traveling on Highway 74 while carrying logs during the morning hours. For unknown reasons, the vehicle attempted to make a legal U-turn on the highway but failed to yield the right-of-way to a second vehicle.
As a result, the truck collided with a second tractor-trailer, which was carrying lumber. The second truck went off the roadway and collided with a third vehicle, identified as a Chevrolet pickup truck, which was pulling an enclosed trailer.
The trailer on the Chevrolet became detached and came to rest on the shoulder. The Chevrolet and the second tractor-trailer caught on fire as a result of the collision.
The driver of the second semi-truck tractor-trailer, identified as a female in her 30s from Orlando, Florida, was injured in the crash. EMS transported the victim to the University of North Carolina Health Southeastern for emergency care. She was then airlifted to New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington, North Carolina.
The circumstances surrounding the truck accident are under investigation.
We hope the injured woman recovers quickly.
