Truck accidents in California take the lives of countless people every year. These accidents often involve some form of negligence. One of the primary causes of fatal truck accidents is driver error. This can include behaviors such as speeding, reckless driving, or failing to obey traffic laws. Fatigue also plays a significant role in many truck accidents, as drivers may be on the road for extended periods without sufficient rest. These violations of federal trucking regulations continued to cause significant harm to families across the country.
External factors such as adverse weather conditions and poor roadway design are additional factors that contribute to a significant number of fatal truck collisions in our state. Rain or fog can impair visibility and make it more difficult for truck drivers to operate their vehicles safely. Additionally, poorly designed intersections or inadequate traffic control devices or signs can increase the risk of collisions.
Another common cause of fatal commercial vehicle collisions is mechanical failure. Issues with brakes, tires, or other critical components can lead to catastrophic crashes. It's essential for trucking companies to prioritize regular maintenance and inspections to prevent these incidents.
Distracted driving is another factor that frequently leads to fatal truck crashes across our state. Truck drivers who engage in activities like texting or talking on their phones while behind the wheel put themselves and others at great risk.
