Truck Accidents in Virginia

Year after year, we witness the devastating consequences of truck accidents on innocent individuals within our state. Negligence is often a significant factor contributing to these accidents. Some primary causes of traffic crashes in our state include:

  • Speeding: Driving at excessive speeds for the given conditions is a leading cause of truck accidents. Truck drivers bear great responsibility on the road and must exercise extra caution to ensure their safety and the safety of others.
  • Fatigue: Truck drivers often endure long hours on the road, which can result in fatigue behind the wheel. Fatigue diminishes their alertness and increases the likelihood of errors. To prevent accidents caused by fatigue, it is crucial for truckers to obtain sufficient rest before resuming their journeys.
  • Improper truck maintenance: Inadequate maintenance of trucks can increase the risk of accidents. Poorly maintained brakes or tires, for instance, make it challenging for truckers to stop or maneuver in time to prevent a collision.
  • Distracted driving: Any activity that takes a driver’s attention from the road ahead poses a significant danger. Distracted driving behaviors like texting, phone calls, eating, drinking, and adjusting the radio can all lead to accidents.
  • Reckless driving: Engaging in aggressive or careless driving behaviors significantly increases the risk of accidents. This is particularly true when large trucks are involved. Reckless driving behaviors such as tailgating, improper lane changes, and switching lanes in a reckless manner can easily lead to serious crashes.
