Wawayanda, NY (September 21, 2023) – A charter bus carrying 40 students and four adults was involved in a major crash on Thursday just 45 miles outside of New York City.
The accident took place on September 21 at around 1:00 p.m.
According to official reports, a charter bus filled with Farmingdale High School band students was traveling on Interstate 84 near Wawayanda during the afternoon hours. The bus was en route to Greeley, Pennsylvania, to bring students to band camp.
For unknown reasons, the vehicle became involved in a collision. The bus went off the side of the roadway and down an embankment.
Two adults were fatally injured due to the crash.
A total of twenty-eight passengers were injured. All of the victims were transported to four area hospitals: Garnet Health, Westchester Medical Center, St. Anthony’s, and Bon Secours.
One victim ended up passing away as a result of their injuries. A total of five individuals were admitted in critical condition.
At this time, the incident is being investigated.
